Credit Reports and Debt Relief

Central New York Bankruptcy Attorney Welcomes Inquiries

If you are considering filing bankruptcy or want to review your debt relief options with the assistance of a bankruptcy lawyer, we recommend that you obtain your credit reports before filing. Before you begin working with a Central New York bankruptcy attorney, you are advised to obtain credit reports from the three major credit reporting agencies below:

  • Equifax: 1-800-685-1111
  • TransUnion: 1-800-916-8800
  • Experian:1-888-397-3742

You can receive a free credit report from each of these agencies once a year at www.annualcreditreport.com, or by calling 1-877-322-8228.

You can expect to find most of your debts on these credit reports, including credit cards, car loans, mortgages and other consumer debts. One major exception may be medical bills. Doctors and hospitals rarely report these debts to the credit reporting agencies. Also, some consumer debts may appear on credit reports of one or two of these agencies, but not on all of them.

By reviewing all your credit reports and considering any missing debts such as medical bills, you should be able to compile a complete list of your debts — a requirement before filing bankruptcy. Your list of debts must be thorough and include all of your debt. Please be aware that if a debt is not listed in your bankruptcy, that debt will not be eliminated. A creditor can be added after filing, but the Court and our office charges additional fees to amend your bankruptcy documents at this juncture.
